Welcome to our web site and the Great White North! The region does its best to plan a years worth of events between May and Sept…since we only have two seasons, winter and road repair. Alaska is very unique in what it has to offer any motor enthusiast and the state has a rich history of motor sports fun dating back to the early 1950’s. We are looking forward to spreading the fun around this year with more drives, Family Fun day, social events and our AutoX season. Yes, we are still slowly inflating the tires to the site and updating pages during pit stops. Please send us your comments and suggestions….they are always welcome!
Mike Holtzclaw, Region Prez, 1/3/16

5/5/16: The club is now the proud “adoptive ” parent of a section of Minnesota Drive which is now our responsibility to clean up trash 3 times a year. The sign is up for all to see if you drive down Minnesota between Dimond and International Road. We will be making our first scheduled trash pick up at the May meeting.
We have confirmed dates for PCA sponsored Auto-Crosses, plus National Office sent out notification that the Snell 2005 helmets will now be allowed through 2016. Remember, to qualify for the end of the season awards for PCA, a driver has to compete in 4 out of 5 PCA sponsored AutoX’s.
Club T-shirts are in the process of being produced and we will let you know when that are completed and how much. We are only going to sell them for just over the cost of production.
4/8/16: The 2016 AutoX season is about to start and we have a special “Course” (another word for “door”) prize to start off this season. Courtesy of Continental Tire and Auto, all registered participants at PCA’s first AutoX on May 1 at Bartlett HS will automatically be entered into a drawing for any set of Toyo Tires up to $800.00 in value!!! The drawing for the tire coupon will take place that day, at the end of the AutoX, after trophies are awarded. You must be present to win! Continental Tire and Auto will also have a booth set up at our Cars and Coffee/Annual Tech event at the Tikahtnu Commons park lot on April 30, as well as at our first AutoX…to answer any questions about the Toyo line of Tires.
This month is the Grand Opening for Continental Tire and Auto….they are located on 1001 E. 50th Ave, just behind Continental Honda dealership. Every Friday for the month of April, Continental Tire and Auto is hosting a Hotdog lunch from 11am to 1pm.
Toyo Tires is one of the sponsors of the Porsche Club of America’s Annual “Porsche Parade” being held at the Jay Peak Resort in Jay Peak, Vermont in June of this year.
The Alaska Region of the Porsche Club of America thanks Continental Tire and Auto for their generous “course” prize to the Motorsports community in Alaska!
2/11/16: Everyone, Let’s Rondy! Calling all Cayenne’s, Macan’s and all Alaska Porsche owners, you are invited to join this years Rondy Parade and represent Alaska PCA on February 27th, this Saturday! We will meet at the New City Sagaya (13th & L St.) starting at 8:00 a.m. and roll out together at 8:45 a.m. to the parade staging area. We usually do a group lunch afterwards for those who are interested.

The January meeting will talk about this year road trips, 2016 Parade in Vermont, Autocross dates for the summer season, design suggestions for T-shirts, and anything else we can think of, plus any suggestion that you may have. The dealership will have complimentary cocktails and refreshments as one of their Porsche Master Techs guides us through the e-hybrid technology on the 2015 e-hybrid Porsche Cayenne’s. Our clubs meeting (Oct 8) will still take place a 6pm at West Berlin in Mt. View.
6/1/15: The Patti McNeff Memorial Fun Day was a smashing success! We did not count how many folks attended, but it would be safe to say throughout the day we had more than 50 people come to have a burger and take a few runs through the course. A special thanks to Jim and Jamie for doing the set up and being there all day to help train the novices and doing whatever was needed. And a special thanks to Todd Held for slaving over the hot grill to cook all the burgers for the hunger masses during the day and Tracy Benard for the yummy ‘tater salad and the cookies that were a huge hit, especially my favorite the german chocolate ones! Thanks to all that helped as well as who came out to have some fun in the sun and help make this annual event a success! This is a note from Jim…”thanks to all that set up and attended that event. It was Patti’s idea to come out and just have some fun with our car’s without it being competitive. I saw similes on everyone that ran the course and I’m sure Patti’s was smiling down on all of us.”
3/2/15: Fur Rondy has been a tradition in Alaska for many years, which was initially started in the past by fur traders gathering in the spring time to sell or trade their furs collected over the winter months for food and supplies….fast forward to current times and Alaskan’s get together each February to honor this time honored tradition with a grand celebration, plus it also helps break up the monotony of the long cold winters with lots of fun and crazy events. The party starts on a Friday evening, but on the following Saturday the Rondy parade is held downtown to help kick off the celebration for 10 days of fun and merriment.
Alaska PCA has been participating in the Rondy Parade for decades, sometimes it is snowing, or the roads are covered in snow and ice which makes most of us very careful when we get our cars out of their winter slumber just to take them out for one day of fun and to show them off a little. We started off for those who wished to meet in advance for coffee at a local watering hole, then from there we drove as a group to the staging area which we met a few others there as well. We had a fantastic turnout this year, which we had to attribute to the severe lack of snow in Anchorage and immediate areas, we had 10 Porsche’s participate in parade this year, which is pretty good for our region, we took a turn around downtown in the parade with everyone smiling and waving to the crowds along the path up to the announcer who read a short explanation of the club that concluded with “it’s about the people”.
All of the club folks were invited to Todd Held’s home after parade for a taco lunch along with all the fixings’ and refreshments. Todd is a long time PCA member and he also brought out his Black Cayenne to participate in the parade and along for the ride were special passengers who smiled and waved to all the crowds and enjoyed their “ride” for the day. After the parade everyone appreciated a great lunch Todd cooked up for all to enjoy which allowed us to continue on with more fun and lots of laughter, we shared stories that have been repeated and shared many times which is almost a requirement when these Alaska folks all get together. Days like this are special to everyone when we have fun and enjoy each other’s company, Alaska Region folks really do appreciate everyone who came out to share it!
2/10/15 Our group is registered to be in the 2015 Rondy Parade on February 28 Rondy folks will be sending us a packet of where we will be staging for the Parade, I will be sending out the notifications with info as soon as they share. Please consider bringing your cars out for this fun winter event, we will all meet at the City Sagaya on 13th and I Street prior to heading to the staging area for all that would like to enjoy a hot beverage or pastry beforehand. One note. we are not allowed any loaner cars from Kendall this year….. I will have Ol’e Bessie out for a winter spin in the Parade this year to stretch her legs. Again, any questions please call Mike @ 229-3943! We hope to have a great turnout and have a great Rondy Day!
1/5/15: We have a new Zone Representative, Jay Gratton. He is relieving our current Rep. Aaron Ambrosino who is now the Treasure for PCA National. Congratulations to them both! Jay has expressed an interest in coming to Alaska to meet with us, hopefully this will come to pass and we can show him as good a time as we did for Aaron. Otherwise he will be at Parade and those who are attending from Alaska can get to know him there as well.
Blurb on new Zone Rep: Jay Gratton began his racing career with auto-x at the age of 16 in a 1973 Porsche 914 with various clubs around New England. Tremblant. Jay has owned and raced the following Porsche models: 1973 914 2.0, 1983 944, 1971 914-6 GT, 1972 914 2.3, 1988 924S, 1973 914 1.7 and 1985 911 Carrera. Currently Jay races in the SCCA with a 1991 Spec Miata in the SM and SSM classes, PCA 944 Cup Series with a 1988 Porsche 924S and in PCA P1 in a 1973 Porsche 914 1.7. Jay has won national auto-x titles in his class at the annual Porsche Parade in 1999, 2001, 2003 & 2005. Currently he is an employee at Skid School as one of their instructors and he is also a national certified racing instructor with the Porsche Club of America and Sports Car Drivers Association as well.

So far, it looks like club officers will stay the same for the next term. But if someone wants to step up the plate and try a position in the leadership team, by all means speak up. Any one of us would be happy to have you shadow and gain experience to take over a position at some point. Currently, we have a great team in place but at some point, one or all will need a break and a fresh mind can keep the club moving forward. We have made great strides these past 10 years and had a lot of fun doing it. Like PCA national says, “it not about the car’s, but it is about the people.” OK, the car’s do have something to do with it…they’re Porsche’s!

5/18/13- UPDATE ABOUT SEWARD ROAD TRIP……due to the road conditions and that most of us have summer tires on, we have postponed the road trip for a few weeks. We will reschedule soon to give you plenty of time to plan. Sorry about the event, but the winter party isn’t over just yet! Be safe…
5/16/13- Update on Saturdays Road Trip to Seward. Winter hasn’t left Alaska just yet…there is a possibility that snow may return this Saturday. In the best interest of safety, it is suggested that those planning on traveling, please do so in a vehicle that you feel can handle ice and snow road conditions safely. Assuming that most of us have changed over to summer tires, it could be alittle squirrely driving. Yeah, first drive of the season, who wouldn’t want to drive their Porsche, but lets be smart and safe about it to drive our Porsche’s another day! That decision is up to you. The road trip will proceed as planned and if conditions really deteriorate, we will make that call at Beluga Point or somewhere else along the way. Jim and Patti McNeff will be at Beluga Point at 9:30 unless the road is impassable due to poor conditions. Please call Jim (242-1911) anytime between 8am and 10am on Sat for any updates. This is all part of living in the Great White North….got to love it!
5/3/13- It’ time to wash the car and kick the tires for our first road trip of the season! It is our regular run to Seward on Saturday, May 18. That is Seward Harbor Open House Weekend! The plan is to meet at Beluga Point around 9:30am, then hit the road around 10am. We will stop along the way at various point to take in the scenery and take a few photo’s, check out the big Ice Cube at Exit Glacier, then on to Ray’s for some food. Things you can do while you are in Seward, check out the Sea Life Center, walk the docks, take a boat tour, and there is always shopping! We will go rain or shine, unless it is raining that would choke a fog! Call the hot line (688-5741) for the latest news just before the road trip or call Jim McNeff @ 242-1911. Lets burn some gas!
4/30/13- We will have our next meeting at Suite 100 Restaurant and Bar on May 9. 7:00 p.m. We will be planning our first drive and covering the first autocross of the season’s attendance and results at the meeting. The address is 1000 E Dimond Blvd. The reservation is under “Porsche Club” We have asked for separate checks, FYI they automatically add a 18% gratuity for groups 8 and up. Call Teri @317-3251 for more details.
4/29/13- Just a reminder PCA has our first autocross of the season this Sunday, May 5 at Bartlett High, Pool side parking lot, this will be held short of a freak snow storm or driving rain (we have added umbrellas to our equipment trailer). Jim & Mike will be out there at dawn setting up the course for the day’s fun. Registration for cars that need to be tech’d and early-birds will start at 8:00. Those cars that have been tech’d and have not made any changes to their car can register at 9:15 but registration will close by 10 a.m.! Our goal is to have the first car on the course just before 11am. $35.00 is still the going fee to participate, and we accept cash (of course!) and local checks. Please note you need a helmet, rated Snell-2005 or better, but we do have some loaners to share if need be. I suggest you bring lunch/snacks to eat throughout the day, since we will not stop for an extended lunch break especially if it is a strong turn-out. We do supply a port a potty for the event, it was the least we could do! Any questions?? Call Mike @ 229-3943 or Teri @ 317-3251
4/3/13- Hey folks, check out what we have been up to!
- Porsche Parade registration is open! We have 10 Alaskan’s going as of today, so you will have lots of friends there plus make new ones with others from around the US!
- I spoke with Dana Applebee at Morrison’s about plans for future meetings and promotions at the dealership, one would be the Cayman launch party May 3 she is working on details for this event and is considering offering free car wash and quick detail of your Porsche while you attend the launch party.
- I spoke with Judy O’Neil with ASD and she verified we have secured all of our dates at Bartlett HS parking lot for our autocrosses, we are holding a joint effort Tech inspection for 2013 on April 26 starting 6:00 p.m. at Continental Motors, bring your helmet and what modifications you may have done to your car to get properly PAX’d. Food and beverages will be available and Sub Zero will be having a membership drive through the event as well. Their first autocross is Sunday April 28 and PCA has theirs on May 5 at Bartlett High.
- We are looking for ideas for summer drives, Seward is always a popular one, We are considering a late April or mid-May date since it depends on the condition of the roads and weather.
- Club members had fun participating in this year’s Rondy Parade, we had quite a few beautiful owner-cars that attended and a few dealer cars as well. Gary Becker who is a manager at Morrison’s drove the Panamera and had loads of fun with his 3 sweet daughters in the car. They sooo had the princess wave down and represented the dealership and Porsche in a great way. The theme this year was “cartoons” so we made big googly eyes and put them on the windshields as we drove through downtown Anchorage. Dana requested copies of some of them to use in a possible promotion, so we may see them in the future somewhere, you never know?
- Aaron Ambrosino, our zone representative is returning to Anchorage for a visit the end of July, we plan on a drive and a few events while he and his very lovely wife Amelia are here to visit, we plan to end their visit with a strong showing of Porsches at the park strip car show this year before they have to fly out that day.
- Jim McNeff has updated the web site, please check it out at www.pcaalaska.org
- Jim and Jamie are working on the timing equipment, trying to get it to update and help simplify the autocross timing for all events, there is a pesky glitch they are trying to get worked out, events will go on as planned we will just do it “old school” as we have been for years until this gets ironed out.
Everyone do their summer-sun happy dance and let’s get over this break-up hump and on to the business of having fun driving our cars in some sunshine this year! Keep the shiny side up!!
Mike Holtzclaw, AK/PCA Prez. 229-3943 Cell
